The Spelling Bee Team were back in Leinster this past week and were excited to see who would be crowned the county champions of Kilkenny, Dublin & Meath.  For an update on each of this past week’s competitions please read below.

Bunscoil McAuley Rice was the venue for the county’s 2017 final. We had a great turnout of 19 magnificent spellers who were all eager to claim this year’s Kilkenny county crown.

After some amazing spelling, it was Michael Cullen from Scoil Phadraig in Ballyhale who beat out the competition to be named our Kilkenny champion. Michael will now go on to represent his county in the Leinster final in June.

The Spelling Bee Team were delighted to be back in the Red Cow Hotel this year for the biggest competition of the year. We hosted a whopping 70 spellers who treated the huge audience to a Spelling Spectacle.

All our spellers were brilliant, but in the end, it was Hazel Trill – O’Rourke from St. Benedict’s NS, Ongar who beat out the competition to be crowned our Dublin champion. Hazel will know go on to represent Dublin in the Leinster final.

The Spelling Bee Team received a very warm welcome to St. Paul’s NS, Ratoath, the host school for our Meath County final. The staff and pupils were extremely helpful and made all 36 spellers feel at home. When the action began, the fans were treated to a master-class in spelling, we did witness some magnificent efforts.

In the end, it was James Moran from St. Paul’s Primary School, Navan who came out on top to claim the title of Meath county champion 2017.  will now go on to represent his county in the Connacht final.
