Spelling Bee 2018: Louth, Down, Armagh & Antrim

With just two weeks of County Finals left our Spelling Bee team hit the road on Monday for a fun filled week of spelling. Three out of four of the competitions the team were going to be joined by the wonderful Downtown Radio/Cool FM team. Check out all the details from their time on the road below and find out which of our excellent spellers were crowned Louth, Down, Armagh and Antrim Spelling Bee County champions.

Louth

18 spellers took part in an excellent competition hosted by Dundalk Grammar Junior School.  Spellers from across the county went head to head to become the Louth County Champion.

Conall Halpenny from Ballpousta N.S. was crowned County Champion. 12-year-old Conall loved reading and has just finished Alex Rider Never Say Die. Conall will now go on to represent the County in the Regional Final in May.

Down

For the second competition of the week the competition was hosted by St.Colmcilles P.S, Downpatrick.  We were joined here by Rebecca McKinney and the Cool FM team.  A thrilling competition of 16 spellers took place just after 11 am.

Luc Tolan from St.Malachy’s P.S, Kilclief was crowned the Down Champion. Luc, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan, will now go on to represent Down in the Provincial final in May.

Armagh

Our third competition of the week was held in Armagh. Poyntzpass Primary School were our fantastic hosts for our Armagh County Final. Kirst and the Downtown Radio team joined us here for a fantastic competition.

Tom McKnight, from Poyntzpass Primary School, came out on top against 9 other spellers.  10-year-old Tom is a massive Roald Dahl fan. Tom will now go on to represent the county in the Provincial Final in May.

Antrim

For the final competition of the week the team were in Antrim.  The competition was hosted by Templepatrick Primary School.  Again, the team were joined by Kirsty and the Downtown Radio team. In Templepatrick 12 spellers from across the county battled it out to become the County Champion.

Eimear Smith was named the Antrim Champion.  Eimear is an excellent reader and really enjoys books written by Enid Blyton.
