Spelling Bee 2018: Meath, Cavan, Fermanagh & Tyrone
Our Spelling Bee Team were on the road again this week. First stop was Co.Meath to where the original competition was postponed due to the Beast from the East. As the week continued they would be making their 1st stops in Northern Ireland where they were being joined by Downtown Radio/Cool FM. Check out all the details from their time on the road below and find out which of our superb spellers were crowned Meath, Cavan, Fermanagh and Tyrone Spelling Bee County champions.
The re-scheduled Meath County Final took place on Monday in St.Paul’s National School, Ratoath. 34 spellers attended the competition and spelt it out to become the Meath champion.
The winner was Pierce Cassidy from Newtown National School. 12-year-old Pierce loves reading and especially loves reading books by David Walliams. Pierce will now go on to represent the County in the Regional Final in May.

On April 24th our team were in Cavan where the competition was hosted by Farnham National School. 15 spellers took part in the competition in Cavan.
The winning speller was Aoibhin Mulvey from Ballynarry National School. 13-year-old Aoibhin is an avid reader and Lauren Child is her favourite author. Aoibhin will now move on to represent the county in the Regional Final in May.

Our third competition of the week was held in Enniskillen Integrated Primary School. Here, we were joined by Rebecca McKinney from Cool FM who interviewed each of our spellers before the competition began.
An excellent competition was had where Brandon Beattie from St.Mary’s P.S, Teemore became the champion speller. 11-year-old Brandon is a lover of sports and plays GAA with Teemore. He will now go on to represent the county in the Provincial final in May.

For the final competition of the week the team were in Tyrone. The competition was hosted by Sacred Heart Primary School in Omagh. A nail biting competition took place between 10 excellent spellers. Kirsty from Downtown Radio joined the team at the Tyrone School to interview each speller before the competition began.
Carol McKnight from Sacred Heart Primary School was crowned the winner. Carol, a fan of the Maze Runner series, will now go on to represent the county in the Ulster Final in May.
