Spelling Bee 2018: Monaghan, Derry, Donegal & Longford
As the County Finals were coming to a close the Spelling Bee Team hit the road again for the final week of county competitions. Four excellent competitions were about to kick off over the final week before Provincial Finals were to begin to take place in two weeks’ time. Check out all the details from their time on the road below and find out which of our excellent spellers were crowned Monaghan, Derry, Donegal and Longford Spelling Bee County champions.
12 spellers took part in an excellent competition hosted by Scoil Naomh Pádraig, Corracrin. Here we were joined by Wendy Fuller from our local Eason Store in Monaghan.
A fantastic competition went kicked off here at 11 am where Boann Verens from Monaghan Model School was named the champion. 11-year-old Boann loves reading Fantasy based books and Harry Potter has been her favourite series so far. Boann will now go on to represent the county in the Provincial Final in May. Conall will now go on to represent the County in the Regional Final in May.

For the second competition of the week the competition was hosted by St.Columba’s, Kilrea. We were joined here by Kirsty and the Downtown Radio Team. 8 spellers went head to head to be crowed the County Champion.
Sinead Brolly came out on top and was named the Derry Champion. 11-year-old Sinead loves reading and her favourite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Sinead will now go on to represent the county in the Ulster Final.

The Spelling Bee Team continued their final week of County Finals by visiting Donegal. The Donegal County Final was held in Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny. 34 spellers went up against each other to become the county champion.
An excellent competition kicked off at 11 am and Jack McBride was named the County Winner after a vigorous competition. 12-year-old Jack loves reading and just has one book left to read in the Harry Potter series. Jack, from Kilmacrennan N.S, will now go on to represent the county in the Ulster Final.

For the final County Final of the competition the team were in Longford for their rescheduled county final. The competition was hosted here by the Stonepark N.S. A fantastic competition kicked off at 11 am where 16 spellers battled it out against each other to become the County Champion.
Aisling Lane from St.Sinneach’s Colehill, was crowned the County Champion. Aisling, whose favourite author is Eoin Colfer, will now go on to represent the county in the Leinster Final.
